North End Walkers
The North End Walkers program was created to promote active living and its associated health benefits while helping to build a sense of community.
Participants are given the opportunity to explore Halifax on foot with support from NECHC and their community. Walkers track their steps using the pedometer that they receive for participation.
The North End Walkers program takes place every Tuesday from 9:30-12:00 pm. Participants meet in the Johanna B. Oosterveld program room located below the Health Centre at 2131 Gottingen Street and then walk the desired route around Halifax. Following the walk, participants return to the program room to enjoy a healthy lunch and socialize with friends.
When Participants are given a pedometer and encouraged to track their daily steps. Participants then report their weekly steps to the group facilitator, who then calculates the number of steps achieved for the entire group. Once the group has cumulatively achieved 1,000,000 steps, they receive $500 to give to a charity of their choice.

We are very proud to be supported by the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Walkabout Program. Their funding allows us to further grow our program and encourage more members of our community to come out and be active together.
